Hans Geistreiter (born May 22, 1910 in Regensburg ; † January 10, 1996 there ) was a German painter . He lived in Regensburg and later in Kallmünz .

education

Geistreiter did an apprenticeship as a theater painter from 1925 to 1928 and then attended the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich from 1928 to 1930 . From 1930 to 1935 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Olaf Gulbransson and Karl Caspar . He was a master student with his own studio .

Life

From 1935 to 1938 Geistreiter was artistically active in Regensburg, mainly with large frescoes and facades . He was a soldier during World War II . During this time he married Hildegard Kubus. He lost almost all of his jobs due to bomb damage .

After the war he worked as a backdrop painter and painter for carnival and cinema posters until 1952. From 1952 to 1959 he worked as an interior designer on behalf of a Nuremberg brewery on the design and layout of restaurants throughout Germany. From 1959 to 1979 Geistreiter ran the Am Kamin Hinter der Grieb 6 wine tavern in Regensburg, which he designed according to his own plans.

In 1979 he wrote in his curriculum vitae: "Finally, calm again for artistic work". He bought a house in Kallmünz , Vilsgasse 16 and works as a freelance artist. He earns extra income by teaching at the Academy for Adult Education in Regensburg.

In 1985 the city of Regensburg dedicated a large exhibition to him in the city's gallery Leerer Beutel on his 75th birthday. Four years later he received the Culture Prize of the City of Regensburg .

In 1996 Hans Geistreiter died in a retirement home. In 2008, pictures from Haus Geistreiter from the years 1968 to 1972 appeared, some of which were shown in an exhibition entitled “Saved ...!” . “These pictures from the garbage also show that Hans Geistreiter was of outstanding importance among the Regensburg artists of the post-war decades,” wrote Ulrich Kelber in the MZ .

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death, an exhibition takes place in Kallmünz: Hans Geistreiter, of nudes, ghosts and abstracts.
