Hans Georg Brenner

Hans Georg Brenner (born February 13, 1903 in Barranowen , † August 10, 1961 in Hamburg ) was a German writer , translator and lecturer from the inner emigration and later, after the collapse of German fascism, the group 47 , which their name one Thanks to Brenner's proposal.

The pastor's son from East Prussia was already working in Berlin as a lecturer (at Universitas Verlag) in the pre-war period, which made him friends with Wolfgang Koeppen , among others . He also wrote reviews for the world stage and the daily press. In 1945 he became a lecturer at Rowohlt Verlag in Stuttgart and later at Claassen Verlag in Hamburg. As a translator, he makes a special contribution to the works of Jean-Paul Sartre . He also translates Albert Camus , Jean Genet , Louis Armstrong . In 1954 he was one of the founding members of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ. His own texts, especially narrative prose with socially critical concerns and biographies, he published under the pseudonym Reinhold (Th.) Grabe . Brenner, married to the translator Susanna Rademacher , was considered a "senior" in Group 47. He died at the age of 58.
