Peter von Kameke , also Kamecke (* 1541 ; † 1615 ) was the ducal Pomeranian high court marshal , castle captain and privy councilor .

Life

He came from the old Pomeranian noble family von Kameke . He was court chamberlain , chief court marshal and privy councilor of Duke Johann Friedrich as well as landlord on Lassehne near Köslin . Since he had traveled to the Holy Land as a pilgrim , he held the honorary title " Knight of the Holy Tomb and St. Catherine's Monastery in Bethlehem ".

Kameke's name appears in connection with the witch hunt of Elisabeth von Doberschütz , against which he took action together with the court junker Jakob von Kleist until their execution (1591). The actual target of the intrigue was her husband Melchior von Doberschütz , who - from Brandenburg - had become the governor of Neustettin instead of a Pomeranian nobleman and aroused the envy of the Pomeranian courtiers. Elisabeth von Doberschütz is said to have given Kameke as well as other court officials and even the duke poisoned drinks, which are said to have " stolen their wit and spirit" , thereby gaining his favor for herself or her husband.

Around 1600 Kameke had the village church of Lassehne renovated and donated an early baroque carved altar. His epitaph was in this church until 1945; Today (2010) it is in the Marienkirche in Koszalin (Köslin).
