The cruiser was christened on September 23, 1969 in the name of the foreman of the motor rescue boat Hindenburg , which did not return from a mission near Borkum on November 28, 1940 (the boat may have run into a mine).
In addition to Lüken, five other rescue men died, among them the second foreman Abelius Meyenburg. The daughter boat of Hans Lüken was named Abelius after him .
deployment
From September 1969 to June 1980 the cruiser was stationed in Wilhelmshaven . The service on Langeoog Island began in July 1980 and ended in April 1991. Then the cruiser was relocated in July 1991 to the Greifswalder Oie station, which was newly built after reunification . In July 1996 the Hans Lüken was relocated to Büsum ; in October 1996 the ship was withdrawn from there and replaced by a new building, which was Hans Hackmack . After a temporary decommissioning, the Hans Lüken became a reserve boat from September 1, 1997, for example to represent other sea rescue units during a stay in the shipyard. The final decommissioning took place in July 2002.
Whereabouts
In October 2002 the Hans Lüken was exhibited in the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven.
