Hans Lagger
Hans Lagger (born June 24, 1882 in Mauthen , Carinthia , † April 12, 1949 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SdP) and, after the Second World War, of the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ).
biography
Hans Lagger was born in Mauthen in 1882 as the son of a smallholder and carpenter . After completing compulsory school and the teacher training college, worked as a teacher in Feistritz an der Gail from 1903 . There he worked in the local organization of the Social Democratic Labor Party . In 1908/09 Lagger moved to Wolfsberg , where he first worked as a councilor and later as mayor. At the age of 33, Lagger joined the First World War as a soldier and took part in the Carinthian defensive battle as a soldier in 1918/19 .
In 1919 Hans Lagger took up his work as a social democratic mandate in the Carinthian state parliament . From 1923 he took over the leadership of the Republican Protection Association in Carinthia. From 1927 to 1931 Lagger was a member of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of German Austria in the Austrian National Council. Until the Social Democratic Party was banned in 1934, he worked again as a member of the state parliament in Carinthia.
In 1944, at the age of 62, the Lagger fell victim to a wave of Nazi deportations that began after the unsuccessful July attack on Hitler. Because of "illegal political activities" he was deported to the Dachau concentration camp , from which he returned in June 1945 seriously ill.
In the autumn of 1945 Lagger moved again for the Social Democratic Party in the Austrian National Council, and he also held the office of Provincial School Inspector of Carinthia. On April 12, 1949, Lagger died as a result of a bladder operation at the Poly-Klinik in Vienna .
