Mauthen is a village in the Austrian market town of Kötschach-Mauthen in the Hermagor district in Carinthia . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1276. In 1958 Mauthen was merged with Kötschach to form the double place Kötschach-Mauthen. In 2018 Mauthen had 724 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018)

Mauthen has been part of the Bergsteigerdörfer initiative of the PES since 2011 .
