Hans Max Philipp Freiherr von Beust was director of the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Bergwerkverein in Ramsbeck, founded in 1852 . On July 1, 1853, he was taken over as operations and factory director by the Aktien-Gesellschaft für Bergbau, Lead- und Zinkfabrikation zu Stolberg and in Westphalia for a period of 15 years. Andreas Köchlin was the president of the new stock corporation and Henry Marquis de Sassenay was the general director.

The company set itself the goal of developing the Ramsbeck mining area into the leading mining region in Europe and thus dominating the metal market in Europe. The aim was to achieve an annual production of 15,000 tons of lead and 22,000 tons of zinc. The investments made were enormous. An even remotely useful cost calculation was missing. The ore quantities that could be extracted were not sufficient to utilize the planned processing and smelting facilities, some of which are under construction. Multiple and timely warnings from Beust's operations director were ignored. Soon the share capital was used up. The corporation collapsed on March 29, 1855. Köchlin and de Sassenay were forced to resign. On June 11, 1855, Baron von Beust was dismissed at his own request and granted compensation.

From 1864 to 1884 he is named as the owner of Brand Castle near Redwitz ( Marktredwitz ). In 1890 Johanna von Voss, née Freiin von Beust, sold Brand Castle to Albert Evan Edwin Reinhold Freiherr von Seckendorff . The Festschrift for the centenary of the Königl. Saxon.
