Hans Schöttler

Johannes Ludolf Theodor "Hans" Schöttler (born February 22, 1861 in Gütersloh ; † December 6, 1945 in Buchschlag near Frankfurt am Main) was a Protestant clergyman.

Life

Schöttler, the son of a grammar school professor , went to grammar school in Gütersloh and studied from 1879 to 1882 first natural sciences in Bonn , Berlin and Münster , then from 1882 to 1885 Protestant theology in Bonn and Greifswald .

After his military service, Schöttler worked as a teacher at the Higher Daughter School in Bielefeld from 1886 to 1888 , passed his theological exam in 1887 and finally worked from 1889 to 1891 as an assistant preacher and military pastor in Frankfurt a. M. Then he became pastor of the old Prussian regional church in Barmen and Düsseldorf . As pastor of Berlin- Schöneberg he became superintendent , then from 1912 to 1917 general superintendent of the old Prussian church province of East Prussia and finally first court preacher at the Königsberg castle church .

From 1917 to 1931 Schöttler was the successor of Paul Johannes Gennrich General Superintendent of the Old Prussian Church Province of Saxony and was appointed honorary professor of theology at the University of Halle . According to his own statement, Schöttler, who was always nationally minded, retired in 1931 and from 1933 was a member of the German Christians , who were close to National Socialism , for whom he worked on an honorary basis in Bremen and most recently as parish administrator in Frankfurt. In 1939 he declared his collaboration with the Institute for Research and Elimination of the Jewish Influence on German Church Life .
