Hans Schikola

Hans Schikola (born April 15, 1890 in Vienna ; † February 12, 1967 there ) was an Austrian teacher and expert on Viennese .

Life

Schikola passed the Matura at the Währinger Gymnasium and then studied German at the University of Vienna and the University of Prague , at the latter under Primus Lessiak, among others . Schikola doctorate in 1914 in Vienna with a thesis on Viennese dialect for Dr. phil. From 1915 he did military service in the First World War and spent five years imprisonment in Siberia , where he acquired knowledge of the Russian language .

From 1921 Schikola worked as a teacher and gave German and Latin lessons at the Realgymnasium in Vienna 14. During the Second World War he was a member of the Vienna School Board and from 1943 headed Realgymnasium 1 " Stubenbastei ". Due to his political activities during the Nazi era , he retired in April 1945.

After retiring, Schikola devoted himself to the Viennese dialect. He was an active member of the Vienna Native Language Association .
