Hans Schreib (* around 1852 in Hanover ; † August 5, 1912 in Lienen near Elsfleth ) was a German chemist and factory director.

Life

Hans Schreib was born as the son of a senator in Hanover around 1852 and went to the higher middle school there in 1860, which later became the secondary school . He left school early to go to sea for a few years . When he returned to Hanover, he acquired knowledge of drugs , chemicals and technical articles during his business days . He then went to Göttingen to study chemistry at the Georg-August University . There he joined the Holzminda student union in April 1874 .

After completing his studies, he became a commercial chemist in Kiel and Berlin , among others, and then an industrial chemist at Hoffmann's starch factories , which was connected to a soda factory. There he laid the foundation for his knowledge of wastewater issues as well as soda and rice starch production - the two areas in which he was later considered an authority. Numerous publications in scientific journals made him known in professional circles. After 12 years at Hoffmann, in 1893 he took on a position as manager of the Nielsen brothers' rice starch factory in Bremen . After another 12 years, he went to a rice starch factory in Harburg in 1905 , where an invention enabled him to improve the starch drying process in such a way that his method was used in many rice starch factories in the following years . This invention enabled him to retire; he married and moved to Bremen, but died of illness in 1912 on a vacation in Lienen near Elsfleth.
