Hans Theodor Bucherer
Hans Theodor Bucherer (born May 19, 1869 in Ehrenfeld , † May 29, 1949 in Benediktbeuern ) was a German chemist .
life and work
He completed his Abitur at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium (Cologne) . After studying chemistry at the universities of Munich, Karlsruhe and Leipzig, Bucherer completed his dissertation with Johannes Wislicenus at the University of Leipzig until 1893 . The title of his dissertation was: "About some derivatives of keto-hexene of the ketone of α-pimelic acid". Bucherer then worked at BASF in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . In 1901 he became a private lecturer at the Technical University of Dresden , in 1913 he followed a call to the Technical University of Berlin , and from 1926 he was professor of chemical technology at the Technical University of Munich . In addition, from 1908–1911 he worked in industry at Kalle & Co. AG in Biebrich as laboratory director and authorized signatory. 1913–1916 Bucherer was a member of the board of directors of the chemical factory on shares in Berlin ( Schering AG ). Bucherer retired in 1935 .
The Bucherer reaction allows phenols and naphthols etc. to be converted into the corresponding aromatic amines using ammonium hydrogen sulfite . The reaction is also reversible under certain conditions.
The Bucherer-Bergs synthesis is a four-component reaction of carbonyl compounds with cyanides and ammonium carbonate , which hydantoins provide. The hydantoins can be basic hydrolyzed to amino acids. The Bucherer-Bergs synthesis is used technically in several large-scale plants in the Evonik Group for the production of DL - methionine .
