Hans Wulz (General)

Hans Wulz (born October 1, 1893 in Neu-Breisach , † December 10, 1975 in Berlin ) was a German professional officer and general.

Life

As the son of an officer, he embarked on an officer career after attending elementary school and high school . He joined in 1912 as a cadet in the Hohenzollern Foot Artillery Regiment. 13 of the Prussian army one. On February 12, 1914, he was promoted to lieutenant with an officer's license on December 19, 1912. He took part in the First World War. On April 18, 1917, he was promoted to first lieutenant . Wulz continued his military career in the Wehrmacht, took part in the Second World War and was promoted to major general on November 1, 1942. As artillery commander 144, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on January 25, 1943 . In the same month Wulz fell into Soviet captivity in Stalingrad , which he spent in the prisoner-of-war camp 5110/48 Woikowo near Ivanowo and in the special camp Lunjewo. In the same year he joined the Association of German Officers .

In 1948 he returned to Germany and joined the German People's Police (DVP) on September 14, 1948 . From 1948 to 1949 he acted as the deputy head of the higher police school of the DVdI, from September 15, 1949 to October 15, 1949 as chief inspector (appointed chief inspector on September 22, 1948), deputy general of the head of the DVdI training course, from 15 October 1949 to October 1, 1950 deputy general of the main administration for training (HVA) of the Ministry of the Interior (GDR) (MdI) and from 1950 to 1952 head of the inspection department at the HVA staff. In 1951 he became a member of the SED .

On October 1, 1952, he was appointed major general and head of the artillery supply administration for the KVP. He was one of the first generals in the GDR. From December 1, 1955 to March 28, 1956, he was head of the Berlin branch of the KVP, then, after the establishment of the National People's Army (NVA), from March 29, 1956 to September 30, 1958 , he was head of the Berlin site command . He left the NVA in 1958 as the last Wehrmacht general and was then a member of the board of the Association of Former Officers of the GDR (AeO).

His only son Hans-Rudolf died in 1945 as a 23-year-old lieutenant in Soviet captivity in Gryazovets .
