Hans of Gruyeres

Hans von Greyerz (born April 5, 1907 in Saanen ; † September 8, 1970 in Bern ; resident in Bern) was a Swiss historian .

Life

The son of a forester studied history , German , Latin and pedagogy at the University of Bern (and a semester at the University of Munich in 1928 ) and graduated in 1931 with a high school teacher diploma. He then worked as a high school teacher in Bern, initially with deputies and from 1938 with a permanent position. In 1938 he did his doctorate with Richard Feller . In 1942 he received his habilitation and in 1948, as Feller's successor, he was appointed full professor of Swiss history and modern, general cultural history at the University of Bern. In 1956/57 he was Dean of the Philosophical and Historical Faculty, 1960/61 Rector of the University of Bern.

His son Kaspar von Gruyères also became a historian and professor.
