Johann Georg (Hans Jürgen) Detlef von Massow (born June 21, 1686 in Brünnow ; † July 24, 1761 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , general war commissioner and master of Waldow .

Life

He was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Massow . His parents were Valentin von Massow, landlord of Gersdorf and Waldow, and his wife Amalie, née von Below from the Pennekow family . He followed his father as the owner of Waldow in the Rummelsburg district .

In 1710, Massow began his career in the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant in the "Great Life Battalion Grenadier" . By 1718 he had already made it to major in the Guard, now known as the “Royal Regiment” , and in the same year dealt with the drill regulations for the first time . In 1724 he received the patent for lieutenant colonel . In 1730 Massow was given command of the 1st and 2nd battalions. After being promoted to colonel in 1733 , he was given command of all three battalions in the king's regiment in 1737. One of his domiciles was the Frey House he built in the Ritterstrasse in the old town of Brandenburg , which is currently used as a city museum for the city of Brandenburg an der Havel . At the same time, Massow still owned a stone house, the so-called Massowburg, north of the old town of Brandenburg near the Beetzsee. In contrast to the Frey House, only the name of the Massowburg still exists.

From then on he increasingly dealt with economic, regulatory and administrative matters of the military. On May 4, 1741 he was promoted to major general. Massow was also supposed to supervise the army's mountings and was given the character of a general commissioner. During the campaign in 1744/45 he was in charge of the entire supply of clothing and equipment for the army in the field. In 1750 he finally received supplies from the infantry as lieutenant general . He also received a gift of 12,000 thalers from the king.
