Hans Wolf Freiherr von Wolhaben (born July 5, 1888 in Berlin , German Empire , † May 20, 1954 in Berlin-Wannsee , Germany ) was a German screenwriter , director and film producer .

Life

Hans Wolf von Wolhaben is the son of the writer Ernst von Wolzüge (1855–1934), who, as the founder of the first German cabaret, was also known as “ Brettl- Baron”. The interest in literary cabaret carried over to the son. As the successor to the composer Friedrich Hollaender , Hans von Wolhaben directed Max Reinhardt's Berlin cabaret, Schall und Rauch , from 1920 , where he became an important sponsor of Joachim Ringelnatz , among others .

At the same time, Wolzo began writing screenplays that were filmed by Max Landa -Film GmbH in Berlin . In 1922 he made two directing attempts here, after which he accompanied numerous film productions as a production manager , including Robert Wiene's lavish Christ film “ INRI ” (1923), Hans Richter's experimental film “Inflation” (1928) and two films with Heinrich George : “ Die Dame mit der Maske ”(1928) and“ Sprengbagger 1010 ”(1929). Another directorial work followed in 1933 with the musical pleasure game “You are delightful, Rosemarie”. After switching to the sound film, however, Woliehen mainly worked as a production manager. After constantly changing the production company, from 1935 he worked exclusively for the production of German films and their successor company Berlin-Film , where he recorded, among other things, Werner Hochbaum's Marika Rökk film “ Leichte Kavallerie ” (1935) and Hans Steinhoff's Ibsen film adaptation “ Ein Volksfeind ”, Jürgen von Altens “Der Biberpelz” (both 1937), Herbert Maisch's married drama “Frau Sylvelin” (1937/38), Harry Piel's adventure film “ Panik ” (1940–1943) as well as several films by Robert A. Stemmle , Georg Jacoby and Nunzio Malasomma produced.

Hans von Wolhaben produced his last two films after the end of the Second World War with Alfred Braun as a director for the Berlin-based Skala-Film GmbH.

His written estate is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
