Harald Laatsch (born October 23, 1956 in Hagen ) is a German politician of the Alternative for Germany party (AfD).

Life

After training as a freight forwarder (graduation 1974), he also trained as a car mechanic (graduation 1977). During his training, he founded his first company at the age of 18. He is currently working as a management consultant in Berlin .

politics

Laatsch began his political career in later years with the founding of the AfD in Berlin . Until November 2013 he was the founding coordinator of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district association . From July 2014 to January 2016 he was Deputy State Chairman. In April 2016, Laatsch was elected to the 6th place on the list together with Kristin Brinker for the election of the state list of the alternative for Germany for the Berlin House of Representatives. Laatsch renounced a runoff election and was listed as a candidate in 7th place. During the election campaign, according to Karin Janker and Oliver Das Gupta in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Laatsch was “ on the move in social networks and drummed for the AfD. Above all, however, he insulted and reviled others ”. Laatsch has been a member of parliament since the House of Representatives was constituted .

For the AfD parliamentary group, Laatsch, who was already the owner and landlord, is the spokesman for building and living. He is a member of the committees for the environment, transport, climate protection, for the protection of the constitution and for urban development and housing.

Controversy

In October 2017, Laatsch gained public attention when he insulted Berlin State Secretary Sawsan Chebli as an Islamist after she described a mass prayer by Catholics on the Polish border as Islamophobic .

He called for the separation of powers to be abolished if the AfD wins the election , since otherwise “the judiciary and administration , implemented by the previous government, would torpedo the new government”.

A trip by Laatsch at the beginning of February 2018 with a group of AfD politicians to the Crimea peninsula , annexed by Russia , sparked criticism from the German government and the threat of criminal consequences from Ukraine .

After quite terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch in March 2019 caused Laatsch by a tweet on Twitter for a Shitstorm in which he, and I quote, "Air Panic disseminator" to Greta Thunberg described as responsible for the assassination. The "provocative statement" commented the Berliner Zeitung as "a bizarre connection that can only be deduced from a right-wing extremist worldview". For DerWesten the tweet was “nothing more than provocative nonsense”, from Bento’s point of view “Laatsch's reaction [...] exemplarily showed how little right-wing politicians care about compassion and honest processing of such acts. Above all, they want one thing: to create images of the enemy. ”For the Frankfurter Rundschau , the tweet was an example of how the“ danger from the right was deliberately played down and misused for incitement ”.
