Harald Popp (historian)

Harald Friedrich Popp (born July 22, 1931 in Neustadt an der Aisch ; † March 9, 2017 in Nuremberg ) was a German historian .

Life

Popp studied Classical Philology and History at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen . He also attended church music school. With an investigation into the effect of omens, sacrifices and festivals on the warfare of the Greeks in the 5th and 4th centuries BC Chr. It was established in 1957 in Ancient History at Helmut Berve to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1957 he was a grammar school teacher at the Erlanger Fridericianum and from 1975 to 1994 he was senior director of the Christian Ernst grammar school .

In 1972 he was appointed honorary professor for history didactics at the Institute for History at the University of Erlangen. Since 1969 he has been in charge of the contact studies for history teachers, which he founded together with Walter P. Fuchs , Karl-Heinz Ruffmann , Werner Goez and Helmut Altrichter .

Popp was honorary chairman of the history / social studies group in the Bavarian Philologists Association and in 1994 received the Federal Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
