Harold Percival

Sir Harold Franz Passawer Percival KCMG DSO , CBE , ASO (born February 12, 1876 in London , † April 28, 1944 in Oxford ) was a British officer, commandant of Malta and British plebiscite commissioner of the Inter-Allied Government and Plebiscite Commission for Upper Silesia (1919– 1921).

Life

Career

He was a student at Christ Church College (Oxford) . On May 4, 1898, he was made a Second Lieutenant in the Derbyshire Regiment of the British Army . In the Second Boer War (1899-1902), he served in Africa in several battles in the Mounted Infantry ( Mounted Infantry ) and in the First World War on the European continent in the British Expeditionary Force in various positions.

In the course of the referendum in Upper Silesia Percival was British plebiscite commissioner from August 16, 1919 until he was replaced by Harold Arthur Stuart on September 6, 1921 . The "Percival de Marinis Line" is named after him and Alberto De Marinis , a moderate proposal for dividing the border in Eastern Upper Silesia , which was, however, rejected by France ; The Sforza line was later implemented .

Percival was a lecturer and steward at Christ Church, Oxford , from 1930 to 1943 .

He married Constance Lilian in 1904 and had two daughters with her.
