Harri Eloranta

Harri Henrik Eloranta (born December 4, 1963 in Köyliö ) is a former Finnish biathlete .

Harri Eloranta works for the Finnish Coast Guard . He lives in Ähtäri and started for Säkylän Urheilijat . The Finn began biathlon in 1978. His first appearance in the biathlon world cup was in the 1983/84 season . The first top ten placement he reached in 1987 as seventh in a sprint race in Canmore . In 1989 in Östersund he was able to achieve an even better result in the World Cup as fifth. In the 1988/89 season he reached 23rd place in the overall ranking, his best result in this ranking. Between 1985 and 2000 the Finn, who was considered a veteran and legend of the sport of biathlon in his last biathlon years, competed in nine biathlon world championships . He was able to achieve his best individual result in 1989 when he was twelfth in the sprint race in Feistritz , the best result with the relay was seventh place in 1997 in Osrblie .

Between 1988 and 1998 Eloranta competed in all four Winter Olympics . In 1988 he reached 50th place in the singles and 25th place in the sprint in Calgary, and in 1992 in Albertville he ran the most successful races of his life. In the individual he missed a medal in fifth, in the sprint he won the bronze medal with Mark Kirchner's victory and behind Ricco Groß . With the season came an eighth rank. In 1994 he finished 30th in the individual and 15th place in the sprint in Lillehammer and was also fifth with the Finnish relay. He played his last games at the age of 34 in 1998 in Nagano . In Japan he finished 20th in the sprint and eighth in the relay. In 2000 he ended his international career.
