Harri Schneider (* 1929 in Rödgen ; † 1992 in Magdeburg ) was a German sculptor.

Career

Schneider initially completed an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor in Weißenfels from 1943 to 1947 , then from 1947 to 1949 he attended the technical school for wood sculpting in Empfertshausen . He studied from 1949 to 1951 at the Academy of Architecture and Construction in Weimar (with Hans van Breek ), then from 1951 to 1953 at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee (with Fritz Koelle and Heinrich Drake ). After graduating as a sculptor in 1953, he went to master class at the Berlin Academy of Arts until 1956 (with Gustav Seitz ). From 1957 he worked as a freelance sculptor; first in Jena , from 1964 in Magdeburg, where he died in 1992. He was married to the sculptor Ursula Schneider-Schulz .

Works in public space

Gera

  • 1962: Healing power and healing arts , bronze, SRH Wald-Klinikum Gera , Straße des Friedens 120 (until 2015 in front of the cultural center of the former miners' hospital , Dr.-Schomburg-Straße 9)
  • 1965: Large nude girl , bronze, Johannes-R.-Becher-Straße 1, in front of the former Wismut polyclinic (now the medical center)

The debate about its implementation brought nude sculpture healing power and healing art into public awareness in October 2015. After the end of the clinic in the former miners' hospital, the plastic was dismantled at the beginning of October 2015 and initially stored. Parts of the public (including AfD MP Stephan Brandner ) made a connection with the imminent use of the building as an initial reception facility , which the city of Gera denied. On October 26, 2015, the sculpture was placed a few hundred meters away from its original location at the new location.

Magdeburg
