Harri "Upi" Ylönen (born December 21, 1971 in Kuopio ) is a former Finnish football player . The defender , who played for the Finnish national team between 1995 and 2002 , has played his career so far in his home country, Norway and Germany.

Career

Ylönen began his career at Kuopion PS , for whom he made his debut in 1991 in the Veikkausliiga . With the team he played against relegation from the top division in the country. In the debut season still placed on the last non-relegation place, the club rose at the end of the 1992 season from bottom of the table.

Ylönen stayed in the top division and joined league rivals Haka Valkeakoski . In the first season he also played with his new club against relegation, in the following year he was sixth in the table with the team in the secured midfield. In the 1995 season , the club surprised, with six points ahead of MyPa , the club won the championship for the first time in 18 years. Thanks to his good performances over the course of the season, Ylönen also played for the national team. Success was followed by a crash, the defender was relegated to the second division with the club. There he dominated the competition with the team and also won the Finnish national cup. As a regular player - he played all 27 games of the season in the season after promotion - he made a decisive contribution to keeping the club on the road to success and winning the championship title as a climber.

In the meantime, Ylönen had also made a name for itself beyond the national borders. Before the Norwegian first division season in 1999 , SK Brann signed the defender. Right from the start, he reached the third place in the table and the final of the Norwegian National Cup with the team behind Rosenborg BK and Molde FK . However, he lost the final against champions Rosenborg BK. In the following season he reached the European Cup as runner-up behind Rosenborg BK, but the series champions were seven points ahead. After another year in Norway, he returned to Finland in 2002.

Ylönen rejoined FC Haka. With the club he played for the European Cup in the first year, in the 2003 season he was runner-up with the team. In the 2004 season he won his third championship title with the club when, alongside Toni Lehtinen , Janne Salli and Mikko Vilmunen, the table runner-up AC Allianssi was separated by eleven points.

In the spring of 2005, Ylönen first completed a trial training at TSV 1860 Munich , but was then guided by Ralf Loose to Sportfreunde Siegen . By the end of the season, he was used in eight games in the Regionalliga Süd and thus helped promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . Since he could not prevail, he only played a second division game as a substitute. So he returned to Finland in the winter.

Ylönen played one season for his old club FC Haka. He then returned to his hometown club Kuopion PS, with whom he rose from the second division in 2007. There he acted as a playing assistant coach for a longer period of time. With the 2009 season, he stopped playing at the club and instead concentrated on his work as an assistant coach. In 2010 he played in an official league game of the PK-37 and scored a goal in this encounter.
