Harry Trumpold

Harry Trumpold (born July 23, 1928 in Chemnitz ; † November 18, 2012 ) was a German engineering scientist, university professor and member of the Volkskammer.

Life

Trumpold, son of a worker, attended elementary and high school. He passed his Abitur at today's Georgius-Agricola-Gymnasium in Chemnitz . At the end of the Second World War he still had to do military service and was briefly imprisoned.

In 1945 he became a member of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) and in 1948 of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDPD). From 1948 to 1952 he studied mechanical engineering with a specialization in production metrology and received his doctorate in 1957 at the Faculty of Technology at the Technical University of Dresden on the subject of investigating the manufacturing processes of surface impressions and surface normals as a Dr.-Ing. The habilitation on the subject of critical considerations on the measurement, manufacture and use of angle gauge blocks followed in 1964.

In the fall of 1956 he received a teaching assignment for a lecture on exchange construction at the Karl-Marx-Stadt University of Mechanical Engineering ; a year later he founded the Institute for Metrology and Exchange Construction there (today's Institute for Production Metrology and Quality Assurance at the TU Chemnitz). As a professor, he headed the institute until mid-1994. From 1963 to 1968 he was Vice Rector for Young Scientists at the university; from 1971 to 1974 he was dean of the faculty of engineering and mechanical engineering.

Trumpold was a member of the LDPD parliamentary group from 1963 to 1990 from the 4th to the 9th electoral term of the People's Chamber of the GDR . From February 1969 he was also chairman of the district committee of the National Front Karl-Marx-Stadt .
