The Hartberg Tunnel is a 762 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg . It runs in the area of ​​the East Hessian community Kalbach .

The construction costs according to the settlement (excluding VAT) amounted to 23.9 million D-Marks (around 12.2 million euros ; price as of 1985).

The tunnel runs in a north-south direction. In the tunnel, the route runs largely in a straight line, which is followed by a transition curve in the southern third . The gradient rises continuously towards the south portal with 12.5 per thousand.

At the north portal (construction km 229.859) the upper edge of the rail is at a height of 328.971  m above sea level. NN , at the south portal (construction km 230.621) of 338.596 m. The overburden ( mountain ridge ) is up to 57 m.

The tunnel cuts through layers of the middle red sandstone and tertiary sediments .

planning

In the early planning phase, Variants I and III of the large-scale lines coming from the north in the Fulda area came together in the southern area of ​​the tunnel.

The tunnel, together with a 67 m long preliminary cut in the north and a 556 m long cut in the south, formed lot 1 of a 2,875 m long construction section (construction km 229.810 to 232.685) of the new line. The section was advertised in August 1982 and subscribed on September 21 of the same year . On November 12, 1982, the building contract was awarded for a total of 57,254,000 D-Marks (around 27.3 million euros ; price as of 1982).

In the planning and construction phase, the tunnel was also referred to as Object 81 .

At the end of 1983, a length of 693 m was planned for the structure.

construction

The tunnel was built by a consortium that received the contract to build the tunnel at the end of 1982. The written order confirmation was issued on March 1, 1983.

The start of the drive was delayed after delays in deforestation work (by the Federal Forestry Administration ). The tunnel was officially posted on August 24, 1983.

Tunneling began on August 19 of the same year. The dome was knocked through on March 6, 1984 , the bench on March 27, 1984. Construction work was completed on December 27, 1985. The tunnel sponsorship had Ingeborg Siebke taken.

The 762 m long tube (measured according to the distance between the two portal base points) was almost completely built using mining techniques over a length of 727.0 m. 35 m in the area of ​​the portal structures were built using the open construction method.

The excavated cross-section was between 108 and 133 m², the usable cross-section between 81 and 99 m². The maximum excavation height (base - apex ) was 11.60 m, the tunnel height ( upper edge of the rail - apex) was 7.78 m. A total of 85,500 m³ of rock was excavated, and 443,650 m³ of material were removed for the cuts. The excess mass, together with that of the Kalbachtunnel , was stored at the Roppesgraben landfill near Niederkalbach . Up to 0.3 l / s of tunnel water was generated during the construction phase .

4,800 m³ of shotcrete was used for the outer vault, and 14,480 m³ of concrete was used for the inner and base vault . A total of 208 t of steel was used to reinforce the inner shell and the portals.

The ARGE Hartberg- und Kalbachtunnel , which consisted of six companies, was commissioned with the construction .
