Hartmann Pistoris
Hartmann Pistoris von Seusslitz and Hirschstein (born January 22, 1543 in Leipzig , † March 1, 1603 ibid) was a German jurist and Privy Councilor of the Saxon electors.
Live and act
Like his father Simon Pistoris the Younger , Hartmann began his law studies at the University of Leipzig under the direction of his father and his older half-brother Modestinus Pistoris von Seusslitz, before he also took a few years of study at Italian universities. After his return from Italy he was appointed assessor of the court of higher courts and in 1574 as assessor of the jury's chair . Two years later he followed the call of the Elector August of Saxony and was appointed a member of the Court Council and promoted to the Privy Council. He held this office until the elector's death. He then retired to his country estate at Schloss Seusslitz in order to acquire further lands and properties such as the neighboring estate and Schloss Hirschstein .
From here he organized his business for 18 years. He advised the current electoral Saxon governments, repeatedly performed his function in the appellate court and prepared numerous expert reports for domestic and foreign princes. It was here that one of his main works was written, the Questiones juris tam Romani, quam Saxonici , which earned him the reputation of a Saxon Papinian . This work has been completed and updated again and again and given a foreword by Matthias Wesenbeck and later by his son Simon Urich at the Leipzig bookseller Henning Große .
Pistoris had written another major work on behalf of the Chamber Court Assessor Joachim Mynsinger von Frundeck , namely the draft of a complete procedural order with 72 titles, which included the appellate order of Duke Christian I of Saxony and in which the procedural and court order of the Duke Johann Georg I of Saxony had been admitted. Mainly because of these works, Pistoris was considered one of the most important lawyers of his time.
family
Hartmann Pistoris von Seusslitz was a son of Simon Pistoris the Younger von Seusslitz from his third marriage to Dorothea von Ziegler and Kliphausen (* 1502). Hartmann was married to Barbara (1545–1628), a daughter of Ulrich von Mordeisen , with whom he had several children, one of whom Simon Ulrich Pistoris von Seusslitz sons continued the family's legal traditions. His grandson Johann Ernst Pistoris was appointed chief judge and electoral diplomat and was one of the principal envoys in the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia .
