Hartwig Zürn

Hartwig Zürn (born April 11, 1916 in Altensteig ; † December 20, 2001 in Altensteig) was a German prehistorian and state curator in northern Württemberg , from 1972 in the state monument office of Baden-Württemberg .

His research focus was on the Hallstatt period , which was his Tübingen dissertation as early as 1941 . He subdivided the late Hallstatt period based on finds from the Swabian Alb using the primers (Ha D1 - Ha D3). His excavations in the princely grave of Grafenbühl near Asperg and other burial mounds in northern Württemberg ( Mühlacker , Böblingen , Hegnach ) became important. He also discovered the warrior von Hirschlanden , a figurative stele from the late Hallstatt period .

He also carried out many important excavations. Only the investigations in the young Neolithic wetland settlement of Ehrenstein in the Schussenried settlement of Ludwigsburg-Schlößlesfeld and in the Viereckschanze of Tomerdingen are mentioned here . Thematically, he covered almost all periods from the Mesolithic to the Middle Ages . As a monument conservator , he was very keen to have contact with the volunteer workers, many of whom kept in private contact with him long after his retirement. In 1963, Zürn was therefore the initiator and co-founder of the Society for Archeology in Württemberg and Hohenzollern . His editions of collections and his catalogs of landmarks are exemplary. As the editor of the find reports from Swabia , and later the find reports from Baden-Württemberg , he attached great importance to the publications of the find chronicle, which he also viewed as the activity report of the ground monument preservation .
