Hatriot is an American thrash metal band from Oakland . The band is under contract with Massacre Records . The band name is a suitcase word from the words Hate ( English for hatred ) and Patriot for patriotism .

history

In 2010 the former Legacy and Exodus singer Steve Souza met guitarist Kosta Vavratakis. After a concert by Vavrataki's band at the time, the two musicians began to compose and record demos together. Souza played the demos to musician friends who advised him to start a band with Vavratakis. The band was founded in February 2011 with Souza's son Cody on bass , guitarist Andrew Gage and drummer Alex Bent.

In May of the same year, the band released a demo with four songs called simply demo , which was offered by the band for free download . Before the first concert in July 2011, Kosta Vavratakis left the band briefly and was represented by Forbidden guitarist Glen Avelais. After Vavrataki's return, Andrew Gage got out and was replaced by Miguel Esparza. In May 2012, drummer Alex Bent left Hatriot. His successor was Nicolas Souza, another son of Steve Souza.

Three months later, the band signed a contract with the German record label Massacre Records. Under the direction of producer Juan Urteaga , Hatriot recorded her debut album Heroes of Origin in the fall of 2012 , which featured guest musicians from Testament singer Chuck Billy and then Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel . The album was released on January 25, 2013. Hatriot played a few concerts in California and Europe. Since the band received only a few tour offers, the musicians set to work on a new studio album. Hatriot started recording in September 2013. Previously, the band separated from the guitarist Miguel Esparza, because he could not find enough time for the band. He was succeeded by Justin Cole.

The album Dawn of the New Centurion , produced again by Juan Urtega, was supposed to be released on January 24, 2014, but was postponed to February 21, 2014. The reason for the shift was the cold spell in North America in 2014 . After his return to Exodus in June 2014, it became increasingly difficult for singer Steve Souza to be active in both bands. For this reason, he left Hatriot in July 2015 and handed over the vocal post to his son Cody. Its debut From Days Unto Darkness was released on July 26, 2019.

The band name

For singer Steve Souza, a hatriot is a person who loves his country but does not agree with government decisions . Souza first used the word in the Exodus song "Scar Spangled Banner" from the album Tempo of the Damned , which was Souza's last work for the band. A flag that resembles the flag of the United States can be seen on the promo photos for the debut album . The blue field with the 50 stars is not in the upper left, but in the lower right, whereby the stars have been replaced by pentagrams .

style

Hatriot play classic Thrash Metal with light modern influences like blast beats . Singer Steve Souza described Hatriot's music as a continuation of the style of the Exodus album Tempo of the Damned .
