Heartbeat is an American television series directed by Jill Gordon and based on the book Heart Matters by Kathy Magliato. The first broadcast took place on March 22, 2016 on NBC . Originally it was planned to broadcast the series from autumn 2015, but this was postponed for an indefinite period in favor of the Chicago Med series . The reason for this was the pregnancy of leading actress Melissa George , which could not be written into the plot.
After the number of episodes had already been reduced from 13 to 10, the broadcasting station announced in May 2016 that the series would be discontinued after one season.
