The main characters are Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Jacob Vargas and Nancy Sorel. The soundtrack of the film contains the song "Heaven in Me" by Darlene Zschech . The film was released on April 16, 2014.

The film received mixed reviews, but was still a box office hit, grossing $ 101 million. The cover of the German-language DVD claims that the book is based on a "true story".

action

Four-year-old Colton Burpo is the son of Todd Burpo, pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial, Nebraska . Colton says he saw the sky during emergency surgery. He describes his family looking down to see the doctor working, his mother asking people in the waiting room to pray, and his father in another room yelling at God not to let him die. He also speaks of the encounter with his great-grandfather, who died long before he was born, and of the encounter with his unborn sister, who died in a miscarriage that no one had ever told him about, and of the encounter with Jesus, where he also describes his appearance.

As Colton continues to share his experiences in heaven, Todd faces the dilemma of whether his son's near-death experience was real or a hallucination. His skepticism in discussing the situation undermines the trust of his church's board members and he has been contacted by several members of the media. When Todd is asked by a radio station for a spontaneous interview, he invites her to his sermon next Sunday. In church he preaches about his son's experiences and shows his support for him.

Following the events in the church, Todd searches the Internet and finds a story about a Lithuanian girl who has had a similar experience. She painted a portrait of Jesus, and Colton explains that her picture is similar to what he saw Jesus when he visited heaven. Todd tries to discuss the picture with Colton, but is interrupted by his wife, who reveals to him that she is pregnant with another child. The film concludes with photos of Colton and his family in the present.
