Hedsor House

Hedsor House is a Georgian style manor house in Hedsor , Buckinghamshire , England . The house overlooks the Thames . The history of the house goes back to 1166 when it belonged to the Hedsor family. In the 18th century it was the residence of Princess Augusta . It's the Beecham House in the movie Quartet . Rooms in Hedsor House were also used for scenes in the film Mortdecai .

history

During the time of Princess Augusta, the house was often visited by the King and Queen of Windsor . From 1764 it was owned by William Irby, 1st Baron Boston . The house was designed by William Chambers for George III . and Queen Charlotte , who chose the site for its location high above the Thames. In 1795 the house was badly damaged by fire and the new building was completed in 1868. Unusually in the style of an Italian villa but with a dome instead of an open courtyard.

Frederick Irby 2nd Baron Boston built the Hedsor Folly to commemorate the victory of George III. in the battle of Waterloo in 1815. In addition to George III. Queen Victoria was also a regular visitor.

The home is set on 34 acres at the end of a one kilometer private driveway. Hedsor Park surrounding the house is a Grade II listed monument on the English Heritage National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens .

In the 1960s, International Computers Limited (ICL) rented the house for management courses. The house was used for overnight stays and only the immediately adjacent areas were leased, most of the property remained closed. The house is now used for company events.

Film set

In addition to Quartet and Mortdecai , the house was also used as a film set in other cinema and television films. So it was seen in The Golden Compass and Spooks . It was used as the White House in The Special Relationship and Downing Street in The Triffids . It was used for the MTV reality show The Girls of Hedsor Hall . It can also be seen in Jay Sean's music video Down .

Others

Hedsor House is officially recognized as a wedding ceremony location.

In 2011, Hedsor House was voted number two in the Times Best Ten Wedding Venues.

In 2012, Hedsor House was named Tatler's No.1 Top Venue and Vogues Dream Venue and Eventia's Event Venue of the Year .
