Heide Schmidt-Lippe

Heide Schmidt-Lippe (born May 14, 1943 in Budeweg , East Prussia near Tilsit ) is a German painter and member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK). She lives in Tutzing .

Artistic approach to work

Heide Schmidt-Lippe works without role models. She feels connected to the figurative tradition of the early Expressionists and the Blue Rider . The focus of her work is the painterly cycle "Living Spaces" with predominantly large-format paintings. The cycle is led into the third dimension on painted wooden steles . Since around 2012 she has been adding life-size heads to her work - mostly polystyrene structures sewn together with felt or leather.

She explains her artistic work as follows:

“In my cycle 'Habitats' people always act, sometimes as a scattered individual, sometimes in a supposed togetherness. Regardless of age and gender, he is always completely on his own. It costs him strength to remove himself from his given living space and to conquer something new. "
"Because as part of nature, he lives in his own chambers or bubbles, which can also be read as an aura or mandorla ."

The newer " masks " made of leather or felt are open to interpretation. They can stand for the anonymous forces of globalization or for the power structures in politics, culture and economy. The respective context and the point of view of the recipient determine the perception.

In her paper works, the artist develops geometric elements on predominantly dark backgrounds. At the center of these sheets are supposedly familiar shapes: circle, triangle, line. Banality, which always escapes the geometric claim and leads a life of its own in the sum of its parts.
