location
The Heidkopf is located in the middle part of the Rothaargebirge in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park . Its summit rises around 5 km south of Schmallenberg , 3 km south-southeast of its district Fleckenberg and 400 m (as the crow flies ) northwest of its district Jagdhaus . The mountain is part of a ridge that branches off in a north-westerly direction from the main mountain ridge and separates the Lenne tributaries, Latrop in the north-east and Uentrop ( Üntrop ) in the west, which flow to the north- west; the Uentrop is fed by the stream Weinkännchen, which rises south of the elevation at Latrop . On its southern flank that after standing there is St. Hubert chapel named chapel grove , which as a natural monument is shown.
Natural allocation
The Heidkopf belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Westrothaarhöhen (333.4) to the natural area Westliche (Rüsper) Rothaar (333.41), with its landscape to the northeast Latrop in the sub-unit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) and its part Eastern (Kühhuder) Rothaar (333.52 ) drops into the natural area Latropschlucht (333.521).
Protected areas
On the northeast and east flanks of the wooded Heidkopf are parts of the Schanze forest reserve nature reserve (northern part of the area) ( CDDA no. 389939; designated 2008; 21.02 km² in size). To the south, beyond Latrop, on the southern flank of the main ridge of the Rothaargebirge, there are areas of the NSG Rothaarkamm on Grenzweg (CDDA no. 329598; 2004; 38.4 km²). On the mountain there are parts of the Rothaargebirge landscape protection area (Hochsauerlandkreis sub-area 1) (CDDA no. 323981; 1994; 140.53 km²) and on the southern flank of the mountain ridge those of the LSG Rothaargebirge (district of Siegen-Wittgenstein) (CDDA no. 555550027; 299.42 km²). In addition, parts of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat- Area Schanze are located on the elevation (FFH No. 4816-302; 61.62 km²).
Traffic and walking
