Origin and meaning
The name originally comes from Norse mythology . It is composed of the word element Heid- (from the original haidu ) with the meaning 'kind, essence, character' and the element -run with the meaning 'secret'. In Nordic mythology, an immortal goat, from whose udders flows mead for the Einherjer , bears the name Heidrun.
In the German-speaking area (especially in Germany and Austria) the name was hardly ever used before the 1930s.
