Heidrun Heidecke (born July 1, 1954 in Magdeburg ; † April 10, 2015 in Bitterfeld ) was a German graduate teacher and politician (non-party, previously Green Party (GDR) and Alliance 90 / The Greens ).

In Saxony-Anhalt she was Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Regional Planning from 1994 to 1998 (later: Minister for Regional Planning, Agriculture and Environment) and Deputy Prime Minister.

Life and work

After finishing school and graduating from high school, Heidrun Heidecke studied at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , whereupon she worked as a teacher for 13 years. After the following engagement in politics, she was elected on November 8, 1998 to the board of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) . In the meantime she worked for BUND for various projects and as a nature conservation coordinator. She received her doctorate in 2004 from the University of Kassel with a thesis on the comparative consideration of planning and innovation processes in the design of lignite succession landscapes.

In 2012 she was awarded the German Nature Conservation Prize for her long-standing and outstanding personal commitment to more wilderness in Germany .

On Friday April 10th, 2015, she passed away unexpectedly at her desk.

On June 7, 2015 , a memorial stele for Heidrun Heidecke was unveiled in the Großer Goitzschesee , near the shore. The words HEIDRUN HEIDECKE - MY WILDERNESS - MY CHILD - MY PARADISE can be read on the stele .

In the autumn of 1989, Heidrun Heidecke was a founding member of the Green Party in the GDR in the Magdeburg district . For this party she had a mandate at the round table .

She was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in the 1st and 2nd electoral periods (1990–1998) . There she was parliamentary director and environmental policy spokeswoman for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group until 1994 . On July 21, 1994 she was appointed Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Regional Planning of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (from June 11, 1996 Minister for Regional Planning, Agriculture and the Environment). The ministerial office held it until May 26, 1998. At the same time, she was Deputy Prime Minister. In 2000 she resigned from Alliance 90 / The Greens after criticizing their government policy.

Heidrun Heidecke led her most famous political argument against the Morsleben nuclear waste repository . Although she was subject to the instruction rights of the then Federal Environment Minister Angela Merkel , in the end the arguments she represented won out.
