Heidrun Tempel (born October 23, 1958 in Brühl ) is a German diplomat who has been ambassador to Cuba since 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1978, Heidrun Tempel began studying economics , political science and law and passed the first state examination in 1986. After her legal preparatory service, she passed the Second State Examination in 1989 and then, from 1990 to 1991, worked as a freelancer in a law firm in Bamako , Mali .

After her return, Heidrun Tempel worked between 1991 and 1994 as a European advisor for the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Düsseldorf and in this role also temporarily in Brussels . This was followed from 1994 to 2000 as head of the branch office of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) at the European Union (EU) in Brussels.

In 2000, Heidrun Tempel took over the position of Head of Section in the Federal Chancellery in Berlin and then, in 2007, moved to the Foreign Office as a special representative for intercultural dialogue . Then, from 2010 to 2013, she was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Indonesia .

In August 2013 Heidrun Tempel replaced Herbert Quelle as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Azerbaijan and held the office of Ambassador in Azerbaijan until July 2016. She was replaced by Michael Kindsgrab .

From 2016, Heidrun Tempel was deputy chairwoman and representative for foreign science, education and research policy as well as foreign cultural policy in the German-American Fulbright Commission .

In 2019 she was appointed ambassador to Cuba . Her husband, Peter Tempel , has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mexico since 2018 .

She published works on interreligious and intercultural dialogue, on European law and state church law.
