Heiko Rosenthal

Heiko Rosenthal (born October 18, 1974 in Berlin-Mitte ) is a German lawyer and politician . He belongs to the party Die Linke and has been mayor of the city of Leipzig since 2006 .

education and profession

Heiko Rosenthal graduated from high school in Ruhla in 1993 . Heiko Rosenthal studied in Leipzig from 1993 to 1998. He completed his law studies at the University of Leipzig with the successful completion of the first state examination in law . From 1998 to 2001, Heiko Rosenthal completed his legal clerkship at the Zwickau Regional Court and successfully passed the second state examination in law.

In 2001, Heiko Rosenthal moved to the Chemnitz regional council as a consultant in the field of passenger and freight transport, public transport as well as budget and grant law. Since 2003 he has also worked as a speaker in the field of road and traffic law and was chairman of the driving instructor examination committee in the administrative district of Chemnitz . Heiko Rosenthal has been mayor and councilor for the environment, order and sport of the city of Leipzig since 2006.

On July 19, 2006 he was elected by the Leipzig city council as mayor and alderman for the environment, order and sport. He has been mayor of the city of Leipzig since September 19, 2006. He is responsible for the public order office , the office for environmental protection, the fire department, the office for sport, the veterinary and food inspection office and the office for urban green and water as well as the municipal cleaning Leipzig and municipal funeral services Leipzig.

On June 19, 2013, the Leipzig city council elected Heiko Rosenthal in the first ballot with 64 out of 70 votes (91.4%) with a majority unprecedented in the city's history as mayor and alderman of the city of Leipzig.
