Holy Cross (Hürtgen)

The Heilig Kreuz Church is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Hürtgen district of the Hürtgenwald community in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). Today's church is also known as the “Friedensgedächtniskirche”.

history

The first chapel can be traced back to 1684. This church was rebuilt four times. Finally, after the battles in the Hürtgenwald, a new building was necessary after the Second World War , as the place, including the church, was razed to the ground. The present church was built in 1949 as a neo-Romanesque hall with a retracted choir and round apse . 1966 from came rubble brick steeple added.

In 1804 Hürtgen became an independent parish .
