Holy Cross (Dorstadt)
The Heilig Kreuz Church is the Roman Catholic church in Dorstadt , a municipality in the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony . The church named after the cross of Jesus belongs as a branch church to the parish " St. Petrus " with seat in Wolfenbüttel , in the dean's office Braunschweig of the diocese Hildesheim , and is maintained by the monastery chamber Hanover .
history
1189 was the monastery Dorstadt as Augustinians - pin of Arnold of Dorstadt and Henrich of Dorstadt founded by Bishop Adelog confirmed it received the patronage to Holy Cross . Lutheran teaching was introduced in the monastery in 1568 , but in 1643 the Augustinians returned to the monastery, which had meanwhile become Protestant. The monastery church had also become a Catholic parish church. Catholic church registers have been kept in Dorstadt since 1663 . In 1802 the monastery was secularized and sold to private parties in 1810. In 1919 the church and the former monastery burned down, the church was not rebuilt.
In 1937 a Catholic church was consecrated again in Dorstadt . After the Second World War , the Dorstadt parish expanded due to the influx of Catholic refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . 1963/64 the church designed by architect Friedrich (was Braunschweig ) expanded on January 12 In 1964, their consecration .
Around 1990 the church still belonged to the then existing dean's office Wolfenbüttel, later the dean's office Wolfenbüttel was merged with the dean's office Helmstedt to form the dean's office Helmstedt-Wolfenbüttel. On November 1, 2006, the Helmstedt-Wolfenbüttel deanery was dissolved again, and the church has belonged to the Braunschweig deanery since then. Since then, the church has also belonged to the parish of St. Petrus in Wolfenbüttel as a branch church. The parish of Hl. Kreuz in Dorstadt, which last had 233 Catholics, was dissolved in this context.
Location, architecture and equipment
The church is located at the northern entrance to Dorstadt, on the Harzstrasse 49 property , and can be seen from the neighboring village of Ohrum through its high tower . The free-standing tower contains two bells, one of which was made in the 1920s by the Hildesheim bell foundry Radler and in 1962 by Wilhelmshütte (Bornum) .
The "House of Reflection" is located at the church, it is a self-catering house sponsored by the parish of St. Petrus and is used by groups of up to 20 people for days of reflection, training and leisure time.
