The Hein Godenwind was a type 19 seaside resort ship built at the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde , only one of which was made. The name goes back to the Low German story "Hein Godenwind, de Admirol von Moskitonien" by Gorch Fock .
history
The ship was built under construction number 467 at the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde . It was put into service under the German flag by the Hamburg company HADAG in 1960 and initially used in the seaside resort service from Hörnum / Sylt to Helgoland . At the beginning of 1969 it was chartered to the Danish AB Centrumlinjen, in which HADAG held a 50 percent stake. Centrumlinjen used the ship under the name København for the ferry service between Malmö and Copenhagen . Shortly before the bankruptcy of the Centrumlinjen, the ship was withdrawn from HADAG in October 1975 and transferred to Hamburg.
In December 1975 the ship was sold by HADAG to the then Flensburger Förde shipping company and, as North Sea I, was initially used for butter cruises in the North Sea and later in the Baltic Sea .
After 23 years, the ship was sold to Spain in spring 1998 due to the imminent end of duty-free shopping trips from 1999 , where it was to be used for shopping trips. The ship was as Estrella del Mar to the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines brought. Home port was now Kingstown . Since the Spanish authorities did not issue a permit for the planned shopping trips in Spanish waters, the ship was sold again a little later and renamed Estrella . There was a time when under this name ferry between Gibraltar and Tangier used, but then in Gibraltar launched . Plans to convert the ship into a yacht failed in 2001. Since then the ship has been in Gibraltar as an Irrational Exuberance . In 2005 the ship was arrested by the authorities because port fees were no longer paid.
The ship was initially due to be scrapped at the end of 2007 after being sold to a scrapping yard. However, since water penetrated the ship and the use of pumps was not possible at the outer pier where the ship was laid up, the ship was moved to berth 5 on the north pier in Gibraltar on December 27, 2007, where it was at around 8 p.m. sank to the approximately 10 meter deep bottom of the harbor basin. On November 24, 2008 the sunken ship was lifted by the floating crane Taklift 6 and deposited on the south pier of the Cammell-Laird shipyard in Gibraltar, where it was finally scrapped.
