Heinrich Adam (born March 27, 1787 in Nördlingen , † February 15, 1862 in Munich ) was a German etcher and landscape painter .

origin

Heinrich Adam was the second son of the confectioner and grocer in Nördlingen, Veit Jeremias Adam (1754-1830) and his wife Margarethe Barbara, a daughter of Pastor Thilo from Nördlingen. His older brother, the painter Albrecht (1786–1862), became the head of the Adam family of painters and lithographers .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a pastry chef, Heinrich Adam went to Augsburg in 1808 to the “Imperial City Art Academy”, where he trained as an etcher. In addition to his own work, he etched pictures by his brother Albrecht and works by old masters , preferably from Dutch painting . During his first stay at Lake Como in 1811, he also turned to watercolor painting, and later to oil painting . Further study trips to Northern Italy followed in 1813, 1819, 1821 and 1851. Heinrich Adam made drawings and sketches on them , which he depicted in his landscape paintings. In his works there are also motifs from Switzerland, the Bavarian Alps and cityscapes, especially from Munich and the surrounding area. "His pictures are hard-working and lifelike works, but executed in a sober and dry manner, as are his etchings."

In 1822 he married Julie Brack (1800-1892).
