Heinrich August Manitius (born November 3, 1804 in Skäßchen near Großenhain , † March 29, 1883 in Dresden ) was a German teacher and private scholar .

Life

Manitius studied theology at the University of Leipzig , ran for a Lutheran ministry (cand. Rev. Min., Candidatus reverendi Ministerii) and received a doctorate in philology at the same university. In 1838 he became a teacher at the Kreuzschule Dresden and from 1844 taught privately, among other things, French , Greek and Latin .

His son Karl Heinrich August Manitius was also a philologist and a well-known Dresden personality.

Heinrich August Manitius dealt in a first phase with theological topics. Later he dealt with foreign language didactics , as evidenced by the following writings, among others:
