Heinrich Bettkober

Heinrich Bettkober (born May 11, 1746 in Berlin , † September 19, 1809 in Berlin; full name Christian Friedrich Heinrich Sigismund Bettkober ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Bettkober began his artistic training in 1764 with the French Sigisbert Michel, who had recently been appointed head of the Berlin court sculptor's workshop . From 1771 to 1774 he then studied with the then internationally known painter, engraver, draftsman and etcher Georg Friedrich Schmidt .

From 1786 on he worked at the Academy of Arts in Berlin, initially as a lecturer, from 1791 as a member of the academy.

His works include a tomb in Berlin's Nicolaikirche (1774), a relief image of the Prussian Queen Luise (1798) and his involvement in the artistic design of the Brandenburg Gate under the direction of Johann Gottfried Schadow .

From 1789 to 1794, one of Bettkober's students was Friedrich Tieck , the brother of the writer Ludwig Tieck .
