Heinrich Binnius

Heinrich Binnius (also: Henricus Binn ; born November 28, 1610 in Barum ; † May 2, 1665 in Helmstedt ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

The son of the theologian Peter Binn and his wife Ilsa, daughter of the Wolfenbüttel citizen Johann Fiedler, received their first education from his father. In 1622 he attended the Walkenried monastery school , then went to high schools in Wolfenbüttel and Braunschweig . From 1627 to 1630 he continued his education at the high school in Hanover with Johannes Struvius . Due to the chaos of the Thirty Years' War , he was initially unable to attend college. Only on May 10, 1632 did he move to the University of Helmstedt , interrupted his studies in 1635 due to lack of money, became tutor to Conrad Hornejus in 1637 and in this position again created a financial basis for continuing his studies at the University of Helmstedt in 1639.

In 1640 he was appointed secretary of the academy and on his wedding anniversary in 1649 he received his doctorate in law. A month later he became an assessor at the Braunschweig-Lüneburg court.

In 1650 Binnius was appointed professor of the institutes and criminal law in Helmstedt, which he took up on January 10, 1651 and held until the end of his life.

He died of a stroke on May 2, 1665 in Helmstedt and was buried there on May 15.

family

On September 6, 1649, Binnius married Magaretha Stuhe, widow of the professor of the Pandects Balthasar Rinck. From this marriage the son Theodul Heinrich (1652–1655) and a daughter emerged who died in early childhood. His adopted daughter, Susanna Rinck, married the then extraordinary professor in Helmstedt Enoch Gläser in 1659 .
