Surname

In the House of Hesse, a name was chosen based on the nobility law of June 23, 1920 and the name Prince and Landgrave (or Princess and Landgrave) of Hesse was chosen (for all family members) , since historically Landgrave the elder and Prince the younger title was. It is common practice in the family that only the head of the house appears publicly or signs as such under the name "Landgrave of Hesse", since this was the title of regent of the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel before the electoral status in 1803 was. Since the death of his father Moritz on May 23, 2013, Heinrich Donatus von Hessen has therefore been using the name Landgrave of Hesse according to tradition and is the head of the House of Hesse, the other members of which only use the name Prince or Princess of Hesse.
