Heinrich Ebner (born November 29, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian photogrammeter and geodesist . From 1977 to 2003 he was full professor of photogrammetry and remote sensing at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Heinrich Ebner was in Vienna born and attended the elementary school , the school and the engineering school for civil engineering . From 1959 to 1964 he studied surveying at the Technical University of Vienna , after which he went to the Carl Zeiss company in Oberkochen in Baden-Württemberg . From early 1967, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Photogrammetry at the University of Stuttgart under Professor Friedrich Ackermann , where he with the theme "Accuracy investigation for photogrammetric Star coordinate determination by closed block compensation" in 1969 received his doctorate .

After his habilitation in 1972 (also in Stuttgart), he applied for the chair for photogrammetry at the Vienna University of Technology in 1974 , which, however, was received by his Stuttgart colleague Karl Kraus . A little later, the professorship for photogrammetry at the Technical University of Munich was vacant and Ebner was appointed there on January 1, 1977.

From 1992 to 1996 he was President of Commission III “Theory and Algorithms” of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).

In 2003 Ebner retired , his successor at the Technical University of Munich was Uwe Stilla .

Heinrich Ebner has been married since 1963.

Research areas

During his time in Stuttgart in the 1960s and 1970s, Ebner researched in the field of aero triangulation . Ebner's further research areas in the area of adjustment calculation were the a posteriori variance component estimation as well as digital terrain models and, from the mid-1980s, digital photogrammetry with automatic image assignment, digital orthoprojection and automatic image interpretation. In the latter case, the automatic extraction of road data from digital aerial photographs should be mentioned in particular.
