Heinrich Eckhard
Heinrich Eckhard (also: Henricus Eckhardus, Eckhardi, Eckhart, Eckhardt; born October 19, 1580 in Wetter , † February 22, 1624 in Altenburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian .
Life
Eckhard was the son of the Grünberg-born Prefect of the Wetter Monastery, Johann Eckhardus, and his wife Dorothea Reinhard. After attending school in Wetter, he moved to the University of Marburg at the age of fourteen . Here, among others, Balthasar Mentzer the Elder was his theology teacher. In 1598 he acquired the degree of master's degree in philosophy. 1601 he was put in Bad Wildungen as pastor one. Later he was court preacher to Burgrave Georg zu Kirchberg in Farnroda and on April 8, 1603 he was again pastor, this time in Singen .
Together with his brother Albert, he received a theological doctorate from the University of Giessen in 1607 . They were the first two people to graduate from this university. Eckhard already accepted an offer from Ludwig von Hessen on February 29, 1608 to take up the third professorship in theology at that University of Gießen. Another year later, however, in 1609, he gave back the post of professor and in 1610 took over a position as superintendent of Frankenhausen . In 1616 he became general superintendent and consistorial councilor in Altenburg . He held this office until his death on February 22, 1624.
