Heinrich Höfflinger

Heinrich W. Höfflinger (born February 10, 1882 in Vienna ; † May 27, 1963 there ) was an Austrian officer, banker, genealogist and publicist. He was Austrian governor of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Life

Heinrich Höfflinger studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1906. He was an imperial and royal officer of the Danube Monarchy , most recently in the rank of lieutenant colonel. Until 1925 he was Vice President of "ML Biedermann & Co. Bankaktiengesellschaft" and advised the European nobility in financial matters. From 1910 to 1925 he was secretary of the "Wiener Adressbuch" and later 2nd Vice-President of the Heraldic-Genealogical Society "Adler" and editor of the monthly newspaper "Adler" and the yearbook. Together with Eduard Gaston Pöttickh von Pettenegg and Hugo Gerard Ströhl, he was involved in genealogy and heraldry, as well as coat of arms and coat of arms law and deeds. Höfflinger was the last private owner of the Ingeram Codex . His important collection of heraldic and genealogical manuscripts included an original book of arms for the Order of the Golden Fleece . In 1922 he founded his own institute for family law and heraldry with Alfred Anthony von Siegenfeld , the ex. designed the coat of arms for the new federal state of Burgenland . In addition, numerous articles were published and works such as Rudolf Geyer's Wiener Matrikenbuch were published .

Höfflinger married Ferdinandine Johanna Nepomucena (Nandine) Countess Károlyi von Nagykároly on July 1, 1944 , who came from one of the oldest Hungarian noble families and was previously married to Count Leopold Berchtold (1863–1942).

In 1913 he was knighted as an Austro-Hungarian officer at the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem , most recently bearer of the Grand Cross with a star. In 1943 he was appointed governor of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in Austria by the rector and permanent administrator of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, Luigi Barlassina , the Patriarch of Jerusalem , as acting governor due to the chaos of the Second World War. Abbot Hugo Presch OCist stood by his side as Grand Prior . With the reorganization of the Order in the post-war period, the new Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali was appointed Regent (Reggente) of the Lieutenancy of the Austrian Order Province in 1949 .

He was an honorary member of the Order of Brothers of Mercy.

Bankaktiengesellschaft" was created in 1921 from the conversion of the private bank "ML Biedermann & Comp.", Founded by Michael Lazar Biedermann in 1808, into a stock corporation .
