Heinrich Hamm (musician)

Heinrich Hamm (born April 24, 1934 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † September 21, 2017 ) was a German organist , choir director , Roman Catholic church musician and university teacher .

Life

Hamm attended the Spohn high school in Ravensburg . He completed his studies in school music and Catholic church music with Anton Nowakowski (organ), Hans Grischkat and Karl Marx at the Stuttgart University of Music with the A-exam .

From 1954 he played the famous Gabler organ of the Weingarten basilica , and from 1968 he also worked full-time as a church musician at the basilica . Hamm founded the International Weingarten Organ Concerts there, an annual series of guest concerts by internationally known organ virtuosos on the Gabler organ. In 1977 he was appointed church music director. He retired in 1999, and Stephan Debeur was his successor at the basilica .

From 1963 to 1999, Hamm held a teaching position for organ playing at the Weingarten University of Education . He was also an organ expert in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .

From 1967–1977 Hamm was director of the Harmonia Friedrichshafen choir, from 1979–2008 he led the oratorio choir Liederkranz Ravensburg 1827 .
