Heinrich Hermann (historian)

Heinrich Hermann (born November 1, 1793 in Klagenfurt ; † January 29, 1865 there ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman and historian .

Life

Hermann, the son of a drawing teacher, attended the Klagenfurt Lyceum . He was able to begin his studies thanks to the support of the Gurk Prince-Bishop Salm and Albin Freiherr von Herbert. He was ordained a priest in 1814 and then worked in various places in pastoral care . Since 1820 at the latest, he has been active as a historian. In this capacity he produced a large number of publications. In 1828 he became chancellor of the consistory of the Gurk diocese , then dean of Gmünd in 1843 and the following year, in 1844, parish priest of Klagenfurt.

In 1851 Hermann received a call to the cathedral chapter of the Lavant diocese in St. Andrä in Lavanttal . There he also received the title of consistorial councilor and the professorship for pastoral theology . In 1859 he moved to the cathedral chapter of the Gurk diocese in Klagenfurt. There he was responsible for the department for church buildings as well as for diocesan accounting.

Hermann was a corresponding member of the Historical Society for Styria from 1857 and a member of the Academia dei Quiriti in Rome from 1858 . On December 26, 1864, he was finally awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order .
