Heinrich II. Hafenberg
Heinrich II. Hafenberg († 1456 in Blaubeuren ) was abbot of the Blaubeuren monastery .
Life
Heinrich came from a wealthy family in the town of Blaubeuren , which was part of Württemberg's honor in the second half of the 15th century . He became prior of the Blaubeuren monastery at a young age .
Abbot Heinrich was able to further expand the independent position of the monastery , which had already been created by his predecessor with the immunity district. In 1422, for example, the Blaubeuren monastery was named in the imperial registers , and it had to provide ten armed riders for the Hussite war .
Abbot Heinrich promoted the establishment of the Blaubeurer hospital and filled benefices in the city with people from his family.
Heinrich II. Hafenberg and his convent had accepted Count Ludwig I of Württemberg as their patron and castvogt on January 21, 1448 . This meant the recognition of the Württemberg state rule by the monastery. In the umbrella letter from Count Ludwig I dated February 16, 1448, he confirmed the freedoms of the five monasteries in Machtolsheim , Seißen , Ringingen , Erstetten and Rottenacker .
Under the influence of the Counts of Württemberg, the Blaubeuren monastery opened up for the Melk monastery reform . The following inscription was placed on the choir stalls built in 1493 : “Anno domini 1493 anno vero regiminis verbundi domini Henrici fig. 18. anno autem reformationis 42 elaborata sunt haec subsellia a Georgio Sürlin de Ulma huius artis peritissimo ”.
At the chapter of the order in Seligenstadt in 1454 , Abbot Heinrich was elected co-president for the following chapter of the order, which took place in Erfurt in 1456 . At the same time he and the abbot of Heilig Kreuz in Donauwörth were appointed as a visitor to the dioceses of Augsburg and Eichstätt .
In 1456 Abbot Heinrich II. Hafenberg resigned for health reasons.
