Heinrich Johann von Wrangell

Heinrich Johann Freiherr von Wrangell zu Addinal ( Russian Андрей Иванович Врангель / Andrei Iwanowitsch Wrangel; Swedish Heinrich Johann Friherre Wrangel af Adinal ; * 28 November July / 9 December  1736 greg .; † 11 May July / 23 May  1813 greg. in Sompäh ) was a Russian lieutenant general , privy councilor and governor in Estonia .

Life

Origin and family

Johann Heinrich was a member of the Addinal line of the Baltic German aristocratic family Wrangel, which was raised to the Swedish baron class in 1680 . His parents were Nils Johann von Wrangell (1709–1778) and Auguste von Essen adH Pöddes († 1740).

His marriage to Auguiste von Löwenstern (1756-1818) in 1778 resulted in 12 children, 10 of whom reached adulthood. Including:

Career

Wrangel received his education in the Land Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg and entered Russian service in 1755 . He took part in the Seven Years' War and was promoted to major in 1767 . In 1771 he took part in the Turkish War as a constable sergeant , was wounded and awarded the IV class of St. George . He rose in 1777 further to the Lieutenant Colonel , in 1778 to Colonel and was 1780 Brigadier .

In 1783 he was appointed to the State Council and, as Vice Governor of Estonia, was entrusted with the chairmanship of the Chamber of Commerce. With his promotion to major general in 1790, he also became governor in Estonia. The rise to lieutenant general went hand in hand with the award of the Order of St. Vladimir, 2nd class. In 1796 he received his retirement with the appointment of a privy councilor .

Wrangell was the heir to the Estonian estates Neu Sommerhusen, Sompäh, Terrefer, Uhhe and Klein Bockenhof.
